- A Participatory Intergenerational Audio Project -

Submit Your Tin Can Chat to our Mix Tape Collection

Grandparents and Grandkids share a special relationship of boundless love, refreshing candor, capacity for play and sometimes hilarious friendships.

Tin Can Tapes is an intergenerational audio project collecting a mix tape of recorded conversations between Grandkids and Grandparents (or a special older person in a child’s life.)

We invite you to jump on the tin can telephone (with a dash of modern technology) and submit your recording to our mixtape collection.

We’d love to hear all that secret grandparent business, like dessert before dinner, staying up late, the mystery ingredient in Grandma’s famous biscuits as well as ponderings on those big life questions.

Snippets of lots of conversations will be used to create a new audio artwork and contribute to an ongoing body of work by Everybody NOW exploring the unique and special relationships between the little ones and the older ones of our communities.

Recordings can be submitted from anywhere across Australia between the dates

We encourage your Tin Can chat to be largely undirected, playful and casual conversations that can capture the unexpected, the everyday, the beautiful and sometimes hilarious friendship that is shared between Grandparent and Grandchild.

Option 1: Together Apart:

Grandkids and Grandparent are in different locations and connect via Zoom. We host your date and record your conversation for inclusion in the mix tape.

Zoom is a new fandangled online video or audio conferencing call tool, where you can record the conversation.

It is free to use and is a safe and secure network. You will need access to the internet and a computer or ipad.

You book in a session with your Grandparent or Grandchild and we will host your Tin Can Chat.

While we are recording the conversation, we promise we won’t be contributing to it!

Once we have you set up and ready to have your date, we’ll disappear.

You can decide if you want to do a video call or just audio. The call can last for up to 40mins.

Option 2: Together Together:

Grandkid and Grandparent are in the same location and you record your conversation via a special record button below.

Before you submit a recording, read our Tin Can Tips

Option 3: A Moment Alone:

This is about taking a moment while you’re apart to reflect on the special relationship between child and grandparent. You record your thoughts via a special record button below.
