FEBRUARY  NEWS

It’s proven that throughout history and in every good fairytale that good things come in threes.

Past, present and future; good, better, best; the Hanson Brothers (or Destiny’s Child, take your pick), and a Moose, Shark and a Piranha.

Yes, that’s more than three examples, but you get the idea.

It’s been a massive three years since the three of us decided to start working together under the banner of Everybody NOW. The next three years too, has the making of living up to the rule of three; inherently funnier, more satisfying and more effective.

One can only hope. More on that soon.

So traditionally February is the time when you might receive a stream of friendly emails from any self-respecting independent arts company, with the previous years wrap up and info on what’s ahead, because January…. well, who are you anyway?! and Marketing Coordinator... are you on a tropical island with January?

In the spirit of celebrating the passing of January and the power of three this February...

Everybody NOW! are delighted to have been commissioned to create a new large-scale dance performance to premiere at Bleach Festival and Festival 2018, the arts and cultural program of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).

Yes, We Dance! sees 10 everyday Gold Coasters, each with extraordinary ways of expressing themselves through dance, matched with our choreographers Bec Reid and Luke Smiles and an ensemble of hundreds of community dancers. Together they create dance sensations which say to the world, ‘We are the everyday people of the Gold Coast and yes, we dance!’

Premiering 12 – 15 April 2018 as part of Bleach* at Festival 2018, Yes, We Dance! invites audiences to lose themselves in a humorous, revealing, uplifting and ecstatic production as their neighbour, bricklayer, barista and local school teacher become dancing greats and Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) heroes.

Are you a secret or not so secret dancing hero?

Do you know someone who carves up the dance floor at the family backyard BBQ?

We are on the search for the Gold Coast’s unsuspecting dancing stars - extraordinary everyday people; all with very different, unique and glorious ways of expressing themselves through dance.

It’s all part of a new large-scale public dance project, produced by Bleach* Festival to premiere at Festival 2018, part of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The project, which is top secret for now, will see ten dancing heroes and an ensemble hundreds of locals, work with two choreographers to create the newest dance sensations, to hit the streets of the Gold Coast, or let’s face it, the world!

Everybody NOW! hits the dance floor as part of the 2017 Darwin Festival
 

After a hit premiere season at the 2016 Brisbane Festival, You Should Be Dancing is two-stepping and twerking its way north as part of the 2017 Darwin Festival. From bootscooters to Latino kings and queens, hip hop heavies to the exponents of the first, ancient steps in this country, hundreds of Darwin’s dancing legends are asking you to join them on the dance floor – and they won’t take no for an answer!

Over three huge nights, diverse local community and dancing groups will share some of Darwin’s rich culture and dazzling dance history. We are totally delighted to be getting a little bit tropical for this special Darwin season of You Should Be Dancing.

In addition to the stella line up of local dancers, community groups and dance instructors involved, You Should Be Dancing stars our Dance Captain deluxe, Bec Reid, our dear friend and charming emcee Tristan Meecham, our very own queen of the decks, Disco DJ D...
